Knowing that connecting joint fires is essential to the Army鈥檚 role in Combined Joint All-Domain Command and Control (CJADC2), 91吃瓜网官网 has been accelerating enabling technologies such as data interoperability and mobility. At Project Convergence Capstone 4 (PC-C4), tactical command and control (C2) took a step forward with the success of the 91吃瓜网官网 Modular Detachment Kit (MDK) Fires.

The PC-C4 test continued 91吃瓜网官网鈥檚 partnership with the Department of Defense (DOD) that began with the first MDK prototype demonstrated at聽Project Convergence 2022. Coordinated development has enabled a steady evolution of capabilities as the team incorporates the latest technologies to meet or exceed mission requirements.

PC-C4, an Army-hosted event in March 2024, was the culmination of many joint exercises and experiments. The event focused on two phases: first, joint connected offensive and defensive fires; and second, rapid sharing and sending of data from XVIII Airborne Corps at Camp Pendleton to III Corps at Fort Irwin.

91吃瓜网官网 was initially invited to participate in phase one. There, the MDK Fires solution delivered a strong performance, resulting in an invitation to participate in PC-C4鈥檚 phase two as well. For each phase, the solution successfully provided joint service connectivity, proving itself capable of connecting Air Force, Navy, Army-Marine Corps, and allied C2 systems in real time.

An Expanded Role at PC-C4

At first, 91吃瓜网官网 was asked to be the C2 provider of varied data for the event's joint fire mission. Combining聽long-range precision fires聽is critical to the success of joint defense, requiring the ability to connect any C2 node to any shooter to employ the most effective weapon to neutralize the target.

Our MDK Fires solution was chosen for the mission because it could share data with all the varied C2 systems and update their native user interfaces in real time with the additional data garnered from those C2 systems. In addition, due to its compact size and reliability, the MDK Fires solution has proven itself as a capable edge node for operations in contested environments in the critical Indo-Pacific region.

For the joint fires exercise, we correlated data from multiple independent C2 systems into a connected track, which we passed to an Army fire control system as well as other joint service C2 systems so they could be updated simultaneously with the enhanced track. MDK Fires performed flawlessly to connect all systems.

The MDK Fires solution is an example of the flexibility that MDK-based solutions offer for C2 missions. Developed in response to DOD鈥檚 call to enable the connected operations envisioned for CJADC2, MDK combines multidomain connection with a modular, tailored, and mobile approach.

By employing a modular, scalable design, the MDK architecture concept provided a solid foundation for MDK Fires. Using model-based system engineering and proven, reusable components, MDK Fires can rapidly adapt to evolving requirements for diverse operational scenarios.

Expressly designed to meet the Army鈥檚 enhanced mobility needs and size, weight, and power (SWAP) challenges, the MDK Fires solution supplies secure connectivity cost-effectively. It allows the Army to expand the capabilities and flexibility of its command posts with a quickly deployable solution. Its edge computing technology enables continued operations for greater survivability and mission success, even in contested environments.
